Summer Reading Program
Rolla Public Library Rocks!
Rolla Public Library is one of only 40 large and small libraries in the State of Missouri to receive a grant to help fund their 2018 Summer Reading Program. This grant is made possible by the Missouri State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The theme this summer is Libraries Rock!. Library Rockers of all ages can begin registering May 29th. Until then, rock (and read) on!
What is "Summer Slide"?
Summer Slide is the term used to describe the learning loss many school-age children experience over the summer months due to lack of educational engagement.
Did you know?
Children who do not read of the summer will lose more than two months of reading achievement.
How to avoid Summer Slide
By working with your children during the summer months, you can help them avoid Summer Slide. The Rolla Public Library runs a Summer Reading Program every year with different aspects targeting all age groups (Infant/PreK, Kindergarten-6th grade, Teens, and even Adults) to help motivate kids to read. The program begins each year at the end of May and continues for 10 weeks. Be sure to check us out and include us in your summer plans!
